July Edition
This months edition contains writing on Pope Leo's new encyclical, how the incarnation teaches us to live full lives, a snapshot of rural Catholic life in Scotland today; and we celebrate St Serf.
Cormac O’Hara writes on how the hypostatic union (defined as Jesus possessing a divine and human will that were also distinct but inseparable) is not just a term for theologians to bandy around, or for Catholics to simply nod their head at, but to embrace it as part of what we are…and do.
Stephen Watt takes a read through Pope Leo’s new Encyclical - Magnifica Humanitas and draws out some of it’s implications and questions that go right to the heart of what we call Catholic Social teaching. As he notes, with frustration, Catholic Social teaching is more than just a theology of the body or about labour division - but an ongoing encounter between the living and intervening God and His Gospel in human history.
Although we have missed his feast day by a few days, Dr Carly McNamara has contributed a brief survey of St Serf of Culross, well known in Fife and supposedly a very early Saint.
Finally, Dhylan Livani captures the peaks of troughs of being Catholic in rural parishes in Scotland; the blessings and challenges around living outside the larger town and city parishes.
July Saints
Apart from St Serf there is also St Palladius on the 6th July, St Drostan on the 12th (See film here) and St Thenog/Thenew on the 18th - mother of St Kentigern.

About
St Moluag’s Coracle is an online Catholic magazine focused on and about faith in Scotland today. We have two aims; bringing you writing that will build and inform your faith and secondly, to bring to light Scotland’s hidden Catholic history.
Our writers come from all walks of life, some are Religious or in the Priesthood. Most are lay people with excellent knowledge and insight.
St Moluag’s Coracle was begun in a kitchen in Nairn by Eric Hanna; with the help of Dominican Sisters, Bishops and the many wonderful and talented writers who have contributed to making this magazine a thoughtful and thought-provoking place for Catholic writing in Scotland.
St Moluag’s Coracle is part of the registered Scottish charity and apostolate Mary’s Well. In addition to publishing this magazine, Mary’s Well also oversees the Association of King James VII and II - a group dedicated to promoting the Cause of this Servant of God. Please find out more here, or email admin@kingjamesviiandii.org. We also put on retreats from time-to-time which we publicise here as well.
