Already in September we have passed the Feast of St Giles on the 1st September- a French hermit who had nothing to do with Edinburgh but was popular in France of the Norman period and hence that influence translated to Scotland. But this month also sees one of Scotland’s most significant Saints celebrated - St Ninian on the 16th September. Evidence from recent research and archaeology shows Whithorn did indeed have a Christian presence from the 4th and 5th centuries and that added with other evidence points to the real existence of St Ninian in either the early or later dating. The day before, the 15th, is an important day for the Diocese of Paisley (and football fans) with the feast of St Mirrin - Bishop John Keenan speaks to St Mirrin FC about the Saint. St Adomnan, the great biographer of St Columba and important figure in his own right is remembered on the 23rd September.
September also remembers St Lolan 22nd, St Barr/Finbarr (which the Isle of Barra took its name from) on the 25th and St Machan of Lennoxtown 28th.

St Moluag’s Coracle was begun in a kitchen in Nairn by Eric Hanna; with the help of Dominican Sisters, Bishops and the many wonderful and talented writers who have contributed to making this magazine a thoughtful and thought-provoking place for Catholic writing in Scotland.
St Moluag’s Coracle is part of the registered Scottish charity and apostolate Mary’s Well. In addition to publishing this magazine, Mary’s Well also oversees the Association of King James VII and II - a group dedicated to promoting the Cause of this Servant of God.
